‘Kin pop-up shop

Objective:

Scrawl Collective, a collective of freelance street artists, briefed Start Live help them create some noise in London’s Soho during Christmas 2008 in order to showcase its works, demonstrate that art is not necessarily a big investment and that affordable art can be stylish, individual and compelling.

Approach:

With a shortage of retailers in affordable art, Scrawl and Start Live decided to take affordable art to the heart of London’s trendy Soho.  Start Live identified a location, negotiated rates and contracted a pop up space in Kingly Court, Carnaby Street, Soho for the duration of the festive season.  The shop was used as both a retail space which displayed and sold the works of the Scrawl Collective and as a platform to host a series of live events that complimented the artists’ works.

Activities ranged from art techniques, such as screen printing workshops, sound and art installations, live DJ sets, acoustic gigs from Virgin Music artists, charitable auctions and press evenings.

Results:

Originally intended to be open from November 11th to 24th December the store proved to be such a popular outlet for the artists to demonstrate their work that it remained open until 1st March.
